OCI is an initiative that works with youth to promote educational and economic equity for urban students, schools, and neighborhoods by cultivating grassroots leadership through a youth organizing strategy.
Youth Mobilizers are divided into two teams: 1. a youth-led education team and 2. a youth-led economics team.

Education
Focus - college access, educational equity for low-income students and schools. Click here to check out the college access report.
Action - youth advocacy around two youth-researched and youth-written reports: “College Access: from the Inside Out” and “Separate and Unequal." Youth are also creating a Student Bill of Rights. Info on this is found on www.EducationIsAHumanRight.org.
Impact - youth-report “College Access: from the Inside Out” released with front-page news coverage, increased number of students accepted to college, protected then increased guidance counselor positions in our school budget, increase in college-related mentoring in our schools, development of a citywide committee focused on college access

Economics
Focus - financial literacy and predatory lending (payday loans, RALS, Title Loans, etc.)
Action - youth-led community financial literacy workshops, development of a relevant personal finance curriculum for low-income youth, organized community meetings regarding predatory lending
Impact - over 40 youth-led financial education workshops, developed a coalition working on crafting legislation against predatory lenders and requiring financial education for high school graduation, personal finance curriculum being developed into a full-semester course
